This little island just of Hiroshima is a 35 min street car ride to the Hiroden-miyajima-guchi stop and a simple 10 min ferry ride away from the hostel.
Once arriving on the island the thing that moves you first is the dears and how people friendly they are. In the UK dears are notoriously shy, not here. They are much braver and remind me of the seagulls on Poole sea front pinching your food if you are not concentrating.
The main sight on the island is Itsukushima Shrine and the big red O-toril Gate.
From here a walk through the Momijidani Park where, by the map, the dear are supposed to be. I didn’t see one here, they were all in the main town.
On the other side of the park is a cable car called the ‘rope way’ which takes you up to near the top of the highest mountain on the island called Misen. The views are quite spectacular.
Tomorrow I head back to Osaka, because that is the only place I could find
