Whilst in a hostel in YangShuo I was speaking to a friendly and helpful Scottish girl who had already been to Shanghai. She stated one of her best experiences had been looking out over the city from the Hyatt hotels Vue Bar on the 32nd floor.
The last day or so I have been chatting to a guy called Daniel from Sydney who has just graduated with an engineering degree and is on gap year. Our learning experiences of travel have been quite similar. Daniel needed some shoes so we decided to walk the length of the main Shanghai street called Nanjing Road which leads to the Bund and the Hyatt Hotel where we could ascend to the 32nd floor, look at over the city and perhaps soak our weary feet in the hot tub in the Vue bar at the same time.
It was not until we reached the 32nd floor after what was about an hour walking and a bit time finding the hotel that we discovered it costs 100 yuan to enter the bar. This is roughly £10, but does include a ‘free’ drink and bowl on chilli nuts. We decided to go for it and I have say that it was worth it, even if the hot tub was closed because it was raining.
