This was one of the those moment when I walked in side and said WOW!
Yesterday evening after doing my post for the day I went for a walk to look at this church from the outside again. To my surprise it stays opens until 10:30pm. I bought my ticket for about a £5 and entered.
The imagery inside was so immersive that all you could do is gasp. Then towards the end of looking around I realised that this was not painted. It was all mosaic! You can see from the last of my images in the gallery above.
To give you an overview of this church, also known as The Cathedrals of Christ’s Resurrection, I have included a brief description from Wikipedia:
This Church was built on the site where Emperor Alexander II was severely wounded and died in March 1881.The church was built from 1883 till 1907. The construction was funded by the imperial family. The name of the church should not be confused with the Church on Blood in Honour of All Saints Resplendent in the Russian Land, located in the city of Yekaterinburg.
This, for me, is the must see attraction in St Petersburg.
